You don't lose any more time by sleeping the ten minutes of night you 'skip' by sleeping has no effect on the real world. And this only has to be done every third night. It would take at most 30 seconds to place a bed, sleep in it, then destroy it again and carry on building. The first of these is that it limits the ability to construct massive structures. Nevertheless, I find that some of the issues with phantoms are trivial and more focussed on people's stubbornness. However, my play style is very much centres around going out at day and returning to sleep at night. I personally have no issues with phantoms. In fact, there are not enough flying mobs in the game, so phantoms are refreshingly unique and pose an interesting challenge to overworld players. At the point in the game where players are trying to mob farm, most players are probably not troubled by the regular mobs, so adding in phantoms as an extra challenge is a good idea in my opinion. Equally having to sleep one night in every three doesn't seem like a meaningful issue at all. It is not hard to carry a bed around, as they are fairly cheap to make and easy to destroy and move on with. A lot of the issues people seem to have with the mob is that they are unwilling to adapt their play style to avoid the mobs. I personally have no issue at all with the phantoms, although perhaps they could be tweaked so that lying in a bed for x amount of time (should be about the time it takes to get to sleep) is enough to prevent them spawning in, to help players on multiplayer worlds/servers. Reading all the comments here, its clear this is a divided issue. As of 1.13.2, they're actually very noisy, and will telegraph their synchronized dive attack. ![]() ![]() They don't really need any major adjustments or outright removal. I read that just lying down on a bed will prevent them from spawning for a while, but then it won't stop them from circling overhead if an insomniac player happened to pass by (I think at this point you could blame the insomniac). ![]() Any other mobs would be just as annoying if they spawned at you while you're build filling the place with torches doesn't prevent them from spawning. They only really become a major nuisance when they spawn around your base, or over something you're currently building. The classic mobs that you will encounter on the way are more of a threat really. So that means if you're on the move, you don't have to worry about phantoms at all, and neither does anyone else who wasn't close to your position. ![]() Phantoms after spawning will only attack players within the area they spawned at. They're annoying, but they aren't really any more annoying than any other mob. The game felt far, far better before these nuisances were introduced with literally zero way to handle them other than to sleep, go inside, or stare at the sky with a bow/sword all night. Honestly, as I type this, I'm looking up a server side mod to just outright remove them from the game. There's no automated turrets to shoot at them, there's no block you can put on a pedestal to ward them off, there's no armor enchantments that drive them away, etc. Lastly, for such an annoying hazard, they happen far, FAR too often, and unlike other mobs who don't spawn near light sources, there's no real way to stop them from spawning over an area besides building unsightly glass domes. It feels like whomever designed them only put in half of the effort they should have. Why? Because the easiest way to get rid of them in solo, sleeping, is NOT always an option depending on the server.Īdditionally, their AI is genuinely dumb, they repeatedly get stuck in walls, under roofs, etc. If you kill the entire swarm, another swarm spawns, sometimes before you can even kill the entire swarm, leading to having 4 of the dive bombing pieces of crap chasing you down. Why? When they spawn, they spawn in swarms. Over 2 years later, Phantoms are one of the most hated mobs in the game. ![]() ![]() ![]() There are also some items that have additional functionality in Minecraft PE 1.20.62, such as copper bulbs, which can be used to illuminate rooms.
